Toys back in the day…I should be physically disfigured.

Back in the day we did not have computer tablets, Netflix, smart phone apps, immediate transportation to the pool or friend’s houses, 62 cable channels, the mall, play dates, etc.…to keep us entertained.

We had lawn jarts (the most dangerous toy ever invented next to the bow and arrow – yes Rich; I am pointing at you), slip and slide, creeks, ponds, dirt bikes, fire crackers, magnifying glasses, big back yards that ran on forever that we had to mow every other day it seemed and any other outdoor activity that would make a today’s overbearing health smotherer (aka mother) cringe or give ulcers too. Plus it gave mom a chance to catch up on her favorite soap opera or game show.

But the best ever all-time toy growing up was the inner tube from a John Deere tire that Don Eibey provided. For those that do not remember or recall; it was used as a floating device at the local watering hole and a bouncy park substitute teacher of the day. But the best use was that it could be used as a small town Iowa neighborhood shortest traveling device known to man.

One would be placed in the middle of the inner tube and then sent / pushed down a steep incline to their own demise. Fortunately no one was physically hurt; but there were some close calls to say the least (ask my niece Shannon).

But that was what we did to keep ourselves entertained. It kept us out of trouble for the most part and a time we lived in and I loved it. And to explain  this to my daughters and the looks I get is memorable and something I cherish forever.

Thank you John Deere https://www.deere.com/en/index.html

P.S. – Does this bring back nightmares?
